BAKING WITH ROSE LEVY
An Afternoon with Legendary Baker Rose Levy Beranbaum
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon with Rose Levy Beranbaum—legendary cookbook author, baking icon, and three-time James Beard Award winner. Known as the Diva of Desserts and hailed by The Washington Post as “the most meticulous cook who ever lived,” Rose has transformed the world of baking through her deep devotion to precision, creativity, and science.
Rose’s groundbreaking book The Cake Bible (1988) not only won James Beard Awards for both Baking & Desserts and Book of the Year, but was also inducted into the IACP Culinary Classics Hall of Fame. Her prolific career spans 14 cookbooks—including The Bread Bible, The Baking Bible, Rose’s Christmas Cookies, and her most recent, The Cookie Bible. Her work has earned her induction into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America and the Heritage Radio Network Hall of Fame.
We’re honored to welcome Rose and her husband Woody, who now live nearby and were inspired by our mission to restore a regional grain economy in New Jersey. After baking with our stone-milled flour, Rose became a believer—saying it elevates her bread to new heights. Now, she’s coming to our kitchen to share her passion and precision with our community.
At this exclusive event, Rose and Lina will demonstrate how to make her celebrated 10 Grain Bread using our flour, and she’ll offer a tasting of her renowned carrot cake—made in celebration of the updated Cake Bible 35th Anniversary Edition. She’ll also reveal the secrets behind her famous cream cheese frosting.
A selection of Rose’s cookbooks will be available for purchase and signing—feel free to bring your own beloved copies, too!
Rose’s impact on baking extends far beyond her books. She's contributed to Food Arts, Food52, the Los Angeles Times, and Fine Cooking; she’s appeared on The Today Show, Martha Stewart, The Food Network, and PBS; and she even launched her own line of bakeware, including the acclaimed “Rose’s Heavenly Cake Strip.” She has been knighted by the Swiss government for her work as a journalist, and has presented at world-renowned culinary events from the Oxford Food Symposium to the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
