This Father's Day, skip the restaurant reservation and bring Dad somewhere he'll actually remember. Join us at the Mill for an afternoon of good food, live music, local history, and a little vintage treasure hunting — all in support of the Foodshed Alliance.
The Foodshed Alliance works to strengthen sustainable farming, expand access to local healthy food, and protect the environment for everyone in our communities. They've also been a close partner here at the Mill, educating and supporting new growers on the path to becoming future grain farmers. Like so many agricultural non-profits, they've seen federal funding cut drastically — and right now, they need the community behind them.
So we're pulling together an afternoon of everything we love about this place. Emily of Emily's Hearth will be demonstrating how she makes her famous farm-fresh pizzas (with our flour, of course!) — with plenty of bites to go around. Mingo Lodge and the Hootenanny Jam will bring live music to our new woodland stage. Our vintage garage will be open and stocked with one-of-a-kind finds from Natalie of Odds & Eras. And milling historian Andy Martin will speak to the history of this region's grain economy through the story of Colonel Mark Thompson — miller, founder of Marksboro, and the man behind the original mill that still stands in the village today.
And for those who want to go deeper — we'll be offering farm tours of Ruthie's farm, right here in the village. Ruthie is one of our grain growers, and seeing her fields is a chance to close the loop on everything this day is really about: a working grain economy, rooted in this community.
So pack a cooler, bring your favorite drinks, and throw some chairs and blankets in the car. Settle in on the lawn, let the music wash over you, and make an afternoon of it. Kids under 16 are free — it's a real family day, and a genuinely great way to celebrate Father's Day while supporting an organization that's doing vital work for all of us.
